BREAKING NEWS: Problems last night include stabbings, rape, falling into paths of vehicles
HOCS brings YOU the stats you count on!Jaimie Weiss, chief statistical corr.
The crowd uptown was said to be smaller than last year but more belligerent to each other.
There were persons uptown causing problems as early as 1:00pm, and several arrests were made hours before the booking center opened.
There were numerous fights (14) and assaults (3).
Horse units had to be used to assist medical personnel in evacuating two persons who were down near the front of PawPurrs. Two other persons were arrested when they came out of the bar fighting and almost stumbling over the two who were down.
As in the past, this department does not issue any crowd estimates.
The crowd was very thick from Union to State, with the area from Washington to State being the most congested.
The Mill Street area had some congestion early on, but thinned.
OU personnel helped with the traffic and other issues in the area.
The pedestrian traffic on Mill Street still posed a problem that will be looked at more closely for 2006.
On an even more serious note, the following items: 1) One visitor fell and rolled off a retaining wall on N. Congress and into the path of a vehicle. He was transferred to Columbus with head trauma. 2) A report was made about a fight at the Riverpark Towers with three persons assaulting another person. It was found that a man had been stabbed in the hand and other blood at the scene did not match his, leading to the belief that another victim was unaccounted for. The one victim was transported to O'Bleness for treatment. 3) An attempted rape was reported, but the woman was able to escape with minor injuries. 4) Person(s) unknown saw fit to vandalize about 20 vehicles on Mound Street. Only 2 victims have called it as of this time.
Booking shut down about 3:00 am EST.
Ninety-five (95) persons were processed through the booking operation, compared with 98 in 2004, 66 in 2003, 70 in 2002, and 47 in 2001.
The breakdown of the 131 charges against the 95 were as follows:
